Rhona is a recently retired lawyer and mediator with 34 years of practice experience who instructed the Law Society's Bar Admission program, the Professional Legal Training Course for 10 years. Rhona has been tutoring the BC Bar Exams since 2015.
Rhona obtained her BA (Honours) from Concordia University and her Bachelor of Laws from the University of British Columbia. After articling with a full service firm, Rhona was called to the BC Bar in 1990 and founded her own law practice in divorce & family law, civil litigation, personal injury, wills & real estate law. Rhona has appeared in the BC Supreme Court Family and Civil divisions and in the BC Provincial Court, Family, Small Claims and Criminal divisions.
Rhona was accredited as a Family Law Mediator by the Law Society of BC in 1996. In 1999, Rhona was a founding member of the Collaborative Divorce Association of Vancouver, was the Co-Chair in 2001 and provided training and services in the Collaborative family law process. Rhona was a practicing member of the Law Society of BC and is a retired member as of 2025. Rhona was a member of the Canadian Bar Association, a member of Collaborative Divorce BC, and a Registered Family Mediator of Mediate BC. Rhona was active as a legal presenter and currently volunteers teaching UBC Law Students at Rise Women's Legal Centre.
In 2004, while a practicing lawyer and mediator, Rhona was hired as a contract instructor by the Law Society of BC to teach the Professional Legal Training Course (PLTC) the Law Society's Bar Admission 10 week program which is held 3 times per year. Rhona taught all sessions as a contractor and from 2009 to 2014 she was a full-time faculty staff member. At PLTC, Rhona taught law students required curriculum: law office management, legal ethics, civil litigation, criminal law, family law, creditor's remedies, wills & estates, company, corporate and real estate law. She specialized in updating the family practice, mediation, negotiation, advocacy skills, professional ethics and practice management course materials, assignments, assessments and exams. Rhona taught over 600 students during her time at PLTC and marked hundreds of assessments and Barrister and Solicitor Qualification Bar exams.
In 2015 Rhona returned to private practice as a family lawyer and mediator and started the first BC Bar Tutoring service, which she conducted under her law and mediation firm Hillcrest Law & Mediation. Rhona has developed a unique system of assisting PLTC students with learning the course materials and mastering established and proven exam writing techniques. As a retired lawyer, Rhona is now operating her tutoring business under the name Hillcrest Bar Tutor.
